TOKYO’26 . . . reflections, repeating
fragments 1 orihon, still in me
_ _ _ the other day, this simple pasarelle which leads from the main street to side entrance of Keio University Collaboration Complex at Hiyoshi Campus has caught the sunset in a very special way . . . in low sun a simple, utilitarian wind-break felt like a set of traditional folded byōbu screens . . . in Japanese, 屏 byo means to cover, to block, and 風 bu is wind (as in Chinese, where it reads pingfēng) . . . the sight was so beautiful that I had to take photos . . . the low light created an ephemeral beauty, the mysterious something, able to shape feelings
_ _ _ walking down the ramp felt as if entering an orihon, with my each of steps unfolding it . . . the fatamorgana brought back something of the recent orihon exhibition in Harajuku, the memories of the process of unfolding and of unfolded beauty back, into me . . . ephemerality of (un)folding, exactly as the transience of sunset does, repeats, yet never exactly . . . these reflections have triggered delayed reflexes of that exhibition, the reflexes which (un) folded something, something in me, this time for some reason touching me deeper than then, than ever
_ _ _ I have no choice – my cultural baggage demands understanding . . . analysis tends to take mystery and elegance away from the exotic original but, nevertheless, these functional glass walls have lied to me beautifully . . . they have charmed me tonight again, on my way to the supermarket, as the day was getting longer
_ _ _ the beauty of these glass walls is (only) in us; the opacity of the unknown sometimes adds to the mystery of meaning
searching, re-searching, researching spaces . . . searching, researching us in spaces, spaces in us . . . realities surrounding us, physical realities that we encounter trigger reminiscences, directly, sideways, indirectly, obliquely
